Washing Machine Valves Won’t Close

We are Plumbers in Cape Coral, FL and we’ve been doing this job for a couple decades in this area. We hear a lot of similar complaints from customers over the years regarding their plumbing issues. One issue we hear a lot is that a customer’s washing machine valves won’t close. We decided to make the video above to help with this situation when it arises.

The most common case is when a customer is having a new washing machine delivered and they need to get the old one out of the way. When they disconnect the washing machine they realize that the valves won’t close all the way or at all. When this happens they typically have to turn the water off to the house, leaving them without water.

When this situation occurs there is actually an easy way to get your old washing machine out of the way and ALSO turn your house water back on. You simply disconnect the two washing machine hoses from the hot and cold valves. Then use one of the hoses to connect the hot valve to the cold valve. Make sure they are tight and then you should be able to turn the water to your house back on.

The hot and cold water will mix at this point but it should not affect the system greatly and it is only temporary. This is a quick easy trick to get your water back on even if the valves are not working.
