This is a video showing a house in need of a whole house cast iron drain pipe replacement. The customer was experiencing frequent drain backups in the house. After an inspection of the drain line with a sewer camera we determined that the cast iron pipes were full of scale and cracks. It was time for a full replacement of the drains with PVC. We exposed the existing cast iron drain lines below the floors and in the walls so that we can remove and replace them. Before removing the old pipes, we made this video to show this part of the process. The video shows our trench and exposed pipes below.
When Is A Whole House Cast Iron Drain Pipe Replacement Necessary?
There are a few different reasons that you may need to replace your cast iron pipes. Sometimes the pipes are so deteriorated that it creates trenches in the bottom of the pipe that catches debris. Other times the pipes can be so full of pipe scale buildup that it discourages the drainage. Pipe scale is corrosion that builds up within cast iron pipes making them look like a cave inside. Over time the scale can buildup and reduce the diameter of the drain pipe.
